The Village Couture
Legendary Designer Patricia Coates, or Pat as she is more fondly called, is a well-known name in the Fashion Industry not only in the Caribbean but also Internationally. Born and raised in Guyana, Pat was a teacher for some years, then worked in the private sector before making designing her career. It was her frustration with having to wait for others to sew for her that triggered her interested to design her own clothing. She survived the trial and errors of sewing and was also inspired and supported by her friend and partner Melville, to operate a shop in Georgetown Guyana called The Village Couture.
Pat emits a particular quality and style only associated with “Legends” and over the years she has built a “Legacy”. Known for her sophisticated, classy and discerning look, her creations have taken local and international runways by storm.
Pat prides herself in her business as is evident in the beautiful clothing she designs. She sees her creations as an expression of her love for outfitting the modern woman who wants to feel special, smart, sophisticated and rich. She always aims for the perfect fit. She believes that presenting a piece of clothing should be about much more than the style or design, but it should include the color, detail, appropriateness, and finish.
Pat’s designs have been showcased at numerous fashion shows throughout the world. In 2009, she was nominated for the prestigious Guyanese Designer of the Year Award, and in 2011 Pat received Karib Nation’s Award of Excellence for her outstanding and remarkable contributions to the Caribbean Fashion Industry.
With more than 30yrs in the fashion industry, Pat feels very blessed in her career and her accomplishments. Pat credits her recognition in the Caribbean fashion industry to her unlimited ambitions, determination, hard work and most importantly, her continuous striving for perfection in all her output.
