Designer
Born in the Ancient County of Berbice on May 01, 1993, Andy Anthony Cummings always knew he was artistic but never imagined that his talent would lead to a career in fashion.
He decided to hone his talent by enrolling at the E. R. Burrowes School of Art where he pursued a Diploma in Fine Art. His hard work and dedication were recognized when he graduated in 2012 as the best student with a Major in Ceramic and a Minor in Textile Design and Textiles Construction.
In 2010 while at the School of Art, Andy started designing costumes for Guyana´s annual Mashramani celebrations – his first experience creating art for the human form.
The young and upcoming designer made a major leap into the local fashion industry when he signed up for the competition ´´Designers´ Portfolio´´ in 2012. He emerged winner of that competition ahead of twelve other contestants and he was featured in Caribbean Airlines´ publication in that same year and again in 2014. As a result of his victory at ‘Designers Portfolio,’ he also earned the privilege of working with Guyanese fashion icon and designer Sonia Noel. He remained with Ms. Noel for three years (2012-2015) before venturing into some solo work. During that time, in 2013, he graced the cover of the magazine ´Guyana Fashion Week’. Andy won his second fashion award for being the most promising designer of the year 2013.
Ever looking for newer and bigger challenges to conquer, in late 2014 Andy decided to enter ´Mission Catwalk´- a regional designer competition that targets the Caribbean´s best young designers. He made inroads again when he became the first designer from Guyana to make it to the finals of the competition. ´Mission Catwalk 2014´ was held in Jamaica and when Andy left the reggae island, he carried under his belt the title of 2nd runner up mission catwalk 2014. The year 2014 also saw him being featured in a number of magazines including ‘Making Style’ – a local magazine with circulation in the Caribbean.
Andy Cummings is well on his way to living his dream of being the best fashion designer that he could possibly be and will continue challenging himself to achieve the best things in the industry.
